Turku is the quick, cheap way into Finland. Instead of a full night as on the Helsinki run, the crossing takes 10 to 11 hours, and because most of it happens in daylight nobody needs a cabin. On 18 of 21 days in our archive three ships sailed: two in the morning, one in the evening. The lowest fare was €19 per person, and the daytime passage through two archipelagos is the real reason to choose this route.
Our archive covers 21 days from 20 August to 9 September 2026 with 58 departures from Stockholm: three a day on 18 days, fewer on three. The pattern is fixed: Tallink Silja at 07:00 (arriving 18:30), Viking Line at 07:45 (arriving 19:50) and at 20:00 (arriving 07:35 the next day). There was no Tallink Silja night departure from Stockholm in the archive. The sailings below come live from the timetable.

Out of Stockholm through the archipelago, across the Åland Sea with a call at Mariehamn (by day) or Långnäs (by night), then through the Turku archipelago to the harbour below the castle. Finland is one hour ahead of Sweden; all times are local.
From Stockholm Tallink sails only in the morning, Viking morning and evening. If you want to travel by night from Stockholm, there is only one option.

Turku or Helsinki, day or night, Grace or Glory: three decisions that set the price.
The Turku ferry is about six hours faster than the Helsinki one and, in our archive, less than half the price on average. The catch is geography: Turku is on the west coast, and Helsinki is another 165 km by motorway or two hours by train. For Tampere, the west coast or Lapland, Turku saves time and money; for Helsinki or eastern Finland, do the sums.
The morning departures pass in daylight through two of the largest archipelagos in the Baltic: first Stockholm's, then after Åland the Turku archipelago, where the ship threads between islands almost into the city. The night sailing sees none of it. First time on this route, take the morning.
On the day crossings a deck ticket is enough; the ships have plenty of lounges, restaurants and open decks for eleven hours. On the Viking Glory night sailing, and on the Baltic Princess back from Turku, a cabin is the difference between sleeping and not sleeping. Each company shows its cabin rule at booking.
Four things that regularly go wrong on this route.
Departure 07:00 from Stockholm, arrival 18:30 in Turku: that is 10 h 30 min, not 11 h 30 min, because Finland is an hour ahead. The return looks correspondingly longer on paper: 19:30 from Turku, 06:10 in Stockholm reads as 11 h 40 min. Always work out Finnish connections in Finnish time.
The lowest values in our archive come from the Baltic Princess day sailing on weekdays, without cabin or vehicle. Friday and Saturday departures and the night sailings with a cabin reached €119 with Viking Line. If you are flexible, move the day rather than the operator.
Turku is where Interrail travellers cross into Finland: the ferry gives a pass-holder discount with both companies, and the trains to Helsinki leave from Turku Satama right beside the terminals, timed to the ship. Helsinki is about two hours; change at Turku central station for Tampere and the north.
Coming by car via Trelleborg you face about 600 km to Stockholm whether you sail on to Turku or Helsinki. Finnlines' direct Travemünde–Helsinki ferry avoids the drive through Sweden but takes about 30 hours. For western Finland the Trelleborg–Stockholm–Turku combination usually ends up faster.
Taking your own vehicle to Finland
All three ships carry vehicles. Turku is the classic starting point for road trips into the Lakeland and Lapland: off the ramp and straight onto the E18 or the road to Tampere.
10 h 30 min on the Baltic Princess (07:00–18:30), 11 h 05 min on the Viking Grace (07:45–19:50) and 10 h 35 min on the Viking Glory overnight (20:00–07:35). All times local; Finland is one hour ahead of Sweden.

Turku is about six hours shorter and clearly cheaper in our archive, but lies 165 km west of Helsinki. For western Finland, Tampere and the north Turku is the better choice; for Helsinki itself the overnight Helsinki ferry often is.
