This is the line that connects Bornholm to the Danish mainland without going through Sweden. The Hammershus sails every day, year round, and the crossing takes 5 hours 30 minutes — the same figure on all 54 sailings in our archive across both directions. One thing catches people out: only one direction is an overnight crossing. From Køge she leaves at 00:30 and reaches Rønne at 06:00; from Rønne she departs at 17:00 and arrives at 22:30.

A timetable does not get much simpler: one sailing each way per day, always at the same hour. Rønne departs 17:00, arriving Køge 22:30. Køge departs 00:30, arriving Rønne 06:00. The choice between Køge and Ystad is rarely about time at sea: Ystad is four hours quicker on the water, but from the Copenhagen area getting there costs a bridge toll and an hour and a half of driving through Sweden.

The Køge terminal opens only at 21:30

The ferry leaves at 00:30, but the operator states that the Køge site is open only from 21:30 to 00:20, with staffed service from 22:00. Turning up early in the evening achieves nothing — there is neither access nor anyone to ask. Plan the evening in Køge or Copenhagen instead and head for the port around ten. The trailer yard, entered from Nordhavnsvej 8, is open around the clock.

Only one direction is an overnight crossing

From Køge you sail at 00:30 and land in Rønne at 06:00 — a proper night crossing with a full day ahead of you. The return looks nothing like it: Rønne at 17:00, into Køge at 22:30. That is not a night but an afternoon and an evening. Plenty of travellers plan the way home as though it were also an overnight sailing and only afterwards realise they spent the last day of the holiday at sea.

Cabins and berths are booked separately

Bornholmslinjen states that aboard the Hammershus you can book either a cabin with four berths or a single berth in a shared cabin. That is not part of the ticket price but an add-on booked alongside it. On the night sailing from Køge it is the difference between five and a half hours of sleep and five and a half hours in a seat — book it together with the ticket, not afterwards.

Two kinds of price that cannot be compared

For the Køge line Bornholmslinjen publishes tickets from DKK 199 (Lowprice), DKK 599 (Flex) and DKK 899 (Standard), as of 24 Aug 2026 — vehicle tickets including up to five people, valid for cars up to 1.95 m high. Cabins and berths come on top. The figures you see on comparison sites, and in our archive, are per-person fares instead: €14 to €25 from Rønne and €14 to €56 from Køge. Decide first whether you are taking a vehicle and whether you want to sleep.

Fifteen minutes to check in — thirty for some

For the Køge line the operator sets the deadline at fifteen minutes before departure, against ten on the Ystad line and twenty on the Sassnitz line. That means check-in completed, not arrival at the port. The deadline moves to thirty minutes for electric cars with a charging slot reserved on board, disabled-adapted vehicles, foot passengers entitled to assistance, and lorries, road trains, semi-trailers and coaches.

The night sailing belongs to the following day

The 00:30 departure from Køge falls on the next calendar day. To sail on the night between Friday and Saturday you book the Saturday sailing. It sounds trivial, but it is the commonest booking error on overnight ferries — and with only one sailing a day there is no second chance to switch to.

Onward from Køge

The port sits a few kilometres from the E20 and E47, so Copenhagen, southern Zealand and the Great Belt are all quickly reached. Arriving at 22:30 from Rønne normally puts you in Copenhagen before midnight. Going the other way it is roughly half an hour from Copenhagen to the night sailing — but not before 21:30.

Keep your ID within reach

Bornholmslinjen itself notes that the authorities carry out regular checks on travellers to and from Bornholm and asks passengers to carry a passport or other identity document. That applies on this line too, even though you never leave Denmark.

Taking a vehicle overnight

This is exactly the appeal of the line: the vehicle drives aboard in the evening and stands in Rønne the next morning, without a single kilometre through Sweden and without a bridge toll. Bornholm itself is an island built for cycling — a dense network of signed routes, much of it laid on the trackbeds of the closed island railways.

Getting to the ferry terminal in Rønne

  1. Pick the right address – Travelling by vehicle to Køge: Tysklandsvej, 3700 Rønne — the same gate as for Sassnitz. Foot passengers go to the customer centre at Dampskibskajen 5. For Ystad you check in at Sverigesvej 1 instead. Three gates at the same port, and a satnav takes you exactly where you send it.
  2. Location – The harbour sits at the edge of Rønne old town, a few minutes on foot from the centre and about five kilometres from Bornholm Airport.
  3. Departure – At 17:00, arriving in Køge at 22:30. No other times appear in our archive.
  4. Check-in – Fifteen minutes before departure, thirty with a reserved charging slot, a disabled-adapted vehicle, assistance or a lorry. There is no baggage service at Rønne.
