Ebeltoft – Odden ferry

This is MOLSLINJEN’s second Kattegat route, and it works quite unlike the one from Aarhus. The crossing is shorter — 1 hour 15 minutes — but it runs only at weekends and only once a day. All 18 sailings recorded in our archive share that same crossing time, and MOLSLINJEN publishes roughly 75 minutes for Odden–Ebeltoft. Planning around this line is a matter of the calendar rather than the clock.

Timetable Ebeltoft – Odden

The timetable is short enough to print here: from Ebeltoft the ferry leaves at 11:35 on Fridays and Saturdays and at 12:35 on Sundays. From Odden it leaves at 09:30 on Fridays and Saturdays and at 10:30 on Sundays. Monday to Thursday it does not sail at all. Our archive also shows the pattern is not entirely rigid: on Saturday 3 October the departure was at 12:35 rather than 11:35, and on Sunday 4 and Sunday 18 October there was no sailing at all. The last departure in our archive for 2026 is Saturday 17 October. Always check the specific date before you plan around it.

Two Kattegat routes to Sjællands Odde

MOLSLINJEN sails to Odden from two Jutland harbours. They look similar on a map but behave very differently in practice.

What to know before you book

Three things set this line apart from the main route out of Aarhus.

Ferry alongside the berth in port

It sails on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only

This is the sentence that matters most. Across our entire archive there is not a single sailing between Monday and Thursday. With just one departure a day, a return trip within the same weekend needs careful planning: the last run back from Odden leaves at 10:30 on Sunday. If you are travelling midweek, the Aarhus route is your only MOLSLINJEN option.

Wake behind a ferry on open water

The season ends in mid-October

The last departure in our archive for 2026 is Saturday 17 October. Daily queries for the following weekends return no sailings at all, while the year-round Rønne–Ystad route keeps running on exactly those dates. So it is the line that stops, not our data source. Outside the season you cross the Kattegat via Aarhus.

At Ebeltoft you can only pay by app

Paid parking is available at MOLSLINJEN’s harbours at both Ebeltoft and Odden, run by Q-Park rather than by the shipping line. But there is a difference: at Aarhus and Odden the machines take Dankort, Visa, Mastercard and Eurocard. For Ebeltoft the operator lists parking apps only — Q-Park, EasyPark, ParkMan and OK & Park One. If you do not have one of those on your phone, set it up before you travel.

Practical tips for the crossing

Five things that count on the Ebeltoft route.

The same ticket types as from Aarhus

MOLSLINJEN uses the same three ticket types right across the Kattegat: Lowprice from DKK 249, Standard from DKK 524 and BlueClass at DKK 950, each for up to nine people. Lowprice can be rebooked for a fee but not refunded. Standard rebooks free of charge and refunds against a fee. BlueClass is valid for twelve months on a departure of your choice and includes the business lounge. Trailers cost DKK 449 to DKK 749 depending on size. Our archive also holds 18 per-person fares, and every one of them is €50. Fares retrieved 25 Aug 2026.

The check-in deadline applies even if the ferry is late

As on the Aarhus route, deadlines are counted against the scheduled departure and apply even when the ferry is running late. Standard and Lowprice, and foot passengers: ten minutes. BlueClass: five. Motorcycles, caravans, trailers and vehicles over 2.95 m up to 3,500 kg: ten. Coaches: fifteen. Road trains and electric cars with a reserved charge: twenty. Disabled-adapted vehicles and foot passengers needing assistance: thirty. Arrive late and your reservation lapses.

The Sunday sailing is an hour later

On Fridays and Saturdays the ferry leaves Ebeltoft at 11:35 and Odden at 09:30. On Sundays both shift back by an hour, to 12:35 and 10:30. That sounds minor, but with only one sailing a day an hour is enough to upset a return journey. Note too that some Sundays in the archive have no sailing at all.

Ebeltoft is closer than Aarhus for Djursland

The route exists because it saves road miles for anyone living or holidaying on Djursland. From Ebeltoft, Grenaa and the holiday-home areas along the coast it is considerably shorter to the berth than driving into Aarhus harbour. If you live in Aarhus, on the other hand, that route is both nearer and far more frequent.

The same fast ferries as on the main line

MOLSLINJEN works the Kattegat with Express 2, Express 3 and Express 4. Express 2 is 112.6 m long, 30.5 m wide and makes up to 40 knots. For that very ship the operator publishes crossing times of about 90 minutes Odden–Aarhus and about 75 minutes Odden–Ebeltoft. Clearance is 2.10 m on the upper car deck and 4.60 m on the lower.

Across the Kattegat

With a car, motorhome or bicycle

The shortcut for Djursland

The Ebeltoft route is not MOLSLINJEN’s main line, but it is the shortest way across the Kattegat for anyone already on Djursland. A quarter of an hour less on the water than from Aarhus, and considerably less driving for anyone east of the city. The catch is that the trip has to fall on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday in season.

  • Lowprice, Standard and BlueClass all cover up to nine people
  • Clearance 2.10 m on the upper car deck, 4.60 m on the lower
  • Trailers are booked separately, from DKK 449 for 3.0 × 1.85 m
  • Vehicles over 2.95 m high up to 3,500 kg: ten-minute check-in
  • Parking at Ebeltoft is paid by app only, not at a machine
