Bøjden – Fynshav ferry

This is one of Denmark’s most useful small ferries and one of the least known. Crossing the border near Flensburg and heading for Funen normally means driving up via Kolding and over the Little Belt bridges. Going by way of Sønderborg and Fynshav is far more direct: 45 minutes on the water instead of the long loop overland. The ferry runs all year, and all 401 sailings in our archive share exactly the same crossing time. Since 2025 the route has been worked by the electric ferry Nerthus.

Timetable Bøjden – Fynshav

The timetable is easy to hold in your head: from Bøjden on the odd hours, from Fynshav on the even ones. Monday to Thursday the first sailing leaves Bøjden at 07:00 and the last at 19:00, giving seven departures. On Fridays and Saturdays an eighth is added at 21:00. Sundays shift: the day does not start until 09:00, but there is a 21:00 sailing as well. From Fynshav the pattern is the same an hour earlier: 06:00 to 18:00 on weekdays, to 20:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, and 08:00 to 20:00 on Sundays.

Ferry fares from the ALSLINJEN price page, retrieved 24 Aug 2026. No toll is charged on the Little Belt bridges, so the calculation is not about fees but about kilometres and time: from the border at Kruså, going via Sønderborg and the ferry is noticeably shorter than via Kolding.

Across the Little Belt

It is an electric ferry — with diesel engines in reserve

Nerthus is the first of Molslinjen’s two electric ferries, built at Cemre Shipyard south of Istanbul. The operator states that the ship has diesel backup engines; those are precisely what carried her home on the roughly eighteen-day delivery voyage, since the batteries could not be charged along the way. Construction was delayed by an earthquake and by the unstable economic situation in Turkey. On a short Little Belt hop electric propulsion makes obvious sense: the ship can charge in the berth between sailings.

The Lowprice ticket is online only

The Lowprice ticket from DKK 139 can, according to the operator, only be bought and changed online through the website or the app — not at the machine in the harbour. Changes cost DKK 50 plus any price difference and are possible right up to departure, but the ticket cannot be refunded, not even if you switch to another ticket type. It is sold first come, first served, and Lowprice also exists for high vehicles and motorcycles.

Sundays start two hours later

Monday to Saturday the day begins at 07:00 from Bøjden and 06:00 from Fynshav. On Sundays it is 09:00 and 08:00. In return there are evening sailings on Sunday at 21:00 and 20:00, which Monday to Thursday do not have. If you want an early Sunday start, those first two sailings are exactly the ones that do not exist.

Five things worth knowing on the Als route.

Two ticket types, and the fare covers the whole car

Lowprice starts at DKK 139 and Standard costs DKK 242, both including up to nine people and valid for a low car under 1.95 m high and under 6 m long. Standard can be changed three months ahead and free of charge right up to the original departure, and refunded against a fee until three months after the planned travel date. The operator also works with seasons: low season 1 January to 26 June and again 17 August to 31 December, high season 27 June to 16 August. Fares retrieved 24 Aug 2026.

Fifteen minutes — and five with a Bizz monthly card

The standard ticket for cars, motorcycles, mopeds, bicycles and foot passengers requires check-in no later than fifteen minutes before departure. The same goes for motorhomes, cars with trailers, groups and coaches. With a Bizz monthly card and a booking made in advance the deadline is only five minutes. Tractors, articulated lorries and road trains, plus loose trailers, cars without a driver and special transports, must be checked in thirty minutes ahead.

Assistance has to be booked in good time

Foot passengers who need help boarding can get it on selected sailings. It is booked by phone on +45 70 25 10 25, Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 21:00 and at least 48 hours before departure. The assistance covers accompaniment on and off the ship, but not lifting from a wheelchair or personal care during the crossing. If you are in a disabled-adapted vehicle and want a space by the lift, call the same number and check in thirty minutes ahead.

The car deck is closed during the crossing

Dogs, cats and other pets are welcome in the marked animal areas, dogs on a short lead and other animals in a carrier. You may leave a pet in the car, but there is no access to the car deck while under way — on a 45-minute crossing that means you cannot go down to check on it.

This route is a shortcut, not an excursion

Bøjden sits on the south-west corner of Funen, near Faaborg. Fynshav is on Als, a short drive from Sønderborg and on towards the German border. That is exactly why the line is used mainly as a transport link: it saves the loop around the Little Belt. Customer service is open daily from 06:00 to 20:00 on +45 70 25 10 25.

The shortcut between Als and Funen

This line is above all practical. From the Flensburg area via Sønderborg to southern Funen, the Little Belt crossing here is the short way, while driving via Kolding and the bridges costs a solid stretch of road. Southern Funen and Als are both quiet cycling country too.

Getting to the ferry berth at Bøjden

  1. Address – Bøjdenlandevej 49, 5600 Bøjden. The berth is right out on the Horneland peninsula, south-west of Faaborg.
  2. By car – West from Faaborg along Bøjdenlandevej. From Odense and Svendborg follow signs for Bøjden and the ferry.
  3. Departure times – On the odd hours: 07:00 to 19:00 on weekdays, plus 21:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, and 09:00 to 21:00 on Sundays.
